Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
